Declaración del Socialist Workers Party (SWP) de Gran Bretaña después de los atentados de Londres

Nuestros pensamientos están con todos los que han sido muertos y heridos en los ataques terribles de esta mañana en Londres.

Londres es un centro de paz: es la ciudad más multirracial de Europa y es también un centro mundial de la oposición a la guerra y a la ocupación de Iraq y de Afganistán. La mayoría de las personas muertas o heridas se han opuesto a la guerra de Iraq y algunas de ellos deben haber participado en las grandes manifestaciones por la paz.

Estos atentados se produjeron después que se realizó la más grande protesta en la historia de Escocia contra la pobreza en el mundo. Las consignas contra la guerra estuvieron también presentes por todas partes en esa magnífica marcha.

Los atentados hicieron blanco en personas comunes, que viajan en bus o en metro para trabajar y estudiar. Gente que se opone al apoyo de Tony Blair a George Bush y su ocupación de Iraq. Este no es entonces, de ninguna manera, un golpe contra el imperialismo o contra los líderes del G-8, refugiados en un hotel de lujo a 450 millas al norte de Londres.

El gobierno inglés no puede evitar su responsabilidad por estos terribles ataques, que son una consecuencia de su apoyo a la guerra y la ocupación de Iraq y Afganistán. La mejor manera de asegurar que no habrá más tales ataques es la retirada inmediata de las tropas británicas.

Como demostración de respeto hacia los muertos, hemos cancelado el día de apertura de nuestra reunión Marxism 2005. Llamamos al movimiento internacional contra la guerra y la izquierda mundial a rodear al pueblo de Londres y, ante estos terribles ataques, redoblar sus esfuerzos por la paz y la justicia mundiales.

Socialist Worker statement following London bombings

Our thoughts are with all those killed and wounded in this morning’s terrible attacks in London.

London is a centre of peace, the most multiracial city in Europe and a global centre of opposition to the war and occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan. A majority of those killed and wounded will have opposed the war in Iraq; some will have joined the huge marches for peace.

These bombings followed the biggest ever protest in Scotland’s history against world poverty. The anti-war message was everywhere on that magnificent march.

These bombings target ordinary people travelling by bus and underground to work and study; people who oppose Tony Blair’s support for George Bush and their occupation of Iraq. They are in no way a blow against imperialism or the G8 leaders, who are ensconced in a luxury hotel 450 miles north of London.

The British government cannot avoid its responsibility for these terrible attacks, which are a consequence of its support for war and occupation in Iraq and Afghanistan. The best way to ensure that there are no more such terrible attacks is for British troops to be withdrawn from there immediately.

As a mark of respect for the dead we have cancelled the opening day of our Marxism 2005 event. We call on the international anti-war movement and the global left to rally round the people of London and, in the face of these terrible attacks, to redouble their work for global peace and justice.
